Our name
Darbha, as the Rigveda knows it
Our name is the sacred grass of the Rigveda. Before a rite begins, darbha is strewn on the ground as a clean seat for the gods: pure, still, and prepared before anyone arrives. Our hospitality begins the same way.
A seat prepared before the rite
Nothing in the rite begins until the seat is ready. Nothing in your stay should either: your room is made up and checked before you reach the door.
Pure by nature
The grass is held to be pure in itself; it needs no cleansing. We hold every room to that standard: clean, quiet and ready before the first bell.
Between the earth and the one who sits
Darbha is a still place between the ground and whoever rests on it. That is what we prepare for the traveller, the pilgrim and the working guest: a calm seat for the time they are with us.
